Brave Enough by Cheryl Strayed
And how did it become 2016 exactly? I don’t know about you, but I feel like there I was just minding my own business in July 2015 and somehow, in the blink of an eye, I end up here! 2.0.freakin’1.6!
So what do you do when you feel life is travelling at the speed of light, the crazy meter has been jacked to full tilt and you just need things to s.l.o.o.o.w down? You reach for a book that settles your soul and offers words of wisdom and no surprises folks, the gem I picked up is Cheryl Strayed’s latest offering, Brave Enough.
If you have been following Readhead for a while, you know I have a crush on Cheryl. I loved Wild. I dip into it regularly. I am loyally hers, and after Brave Enough, I remain so.
This is not a story but rather a collection of her musings taken from her books. It is the best of her best words I guess you could say, and it is vivid, honest, raw and deeply poignant.
So if, like me, you are looking for inspiration I suggest you get a copy, pronto. Open it and read a page a day or devour it like I did in one sitting, but if it is honest, uplifting soul-food you seek, in this book thee shall find it.
So with book in hand, off I trot, brave enough to hit 2016 in full stride because as Cheryl says, ‘You don’t have a right to the cards you believe you should have been dealt. You have an obligation to play the hell out of the ones you’re holding’.
Yee ha, Readheads.
And that is my 2 cents worth.
