Daring and Disruptive by Lisa Messenger
True to this book’s title, it indeed did prove Disruptive. I picked it up one rainy Sunday to scan the first page and four hours later, there I still was……
Do you know Lisa Messenger? Do you know the magazine Renegade Collective? Well, it was her brainchild so once you have finished reading this, I suggest you get a copy of the mag lickety split.
This book is Lisa’s story – not whole life, but it talks of her journey to launch the magazine, build a business and the philosophies she developed along the way. It is a guide to unleashing the entrepreneur.
Empowering and inspiring. Yep, for shizzle.
But in an Instagram world full of ‘Make Today Amazing‘ posts (which drive me B.O.N.K.E.R.S!) I was nervous that I would be getting a whole lot of empowerment mumbo-jumbo. There is a tiny bit of that I grant you, but, there is a whole lotta wisdom and wonderful windows into Lisa’s best and worst days shown through a selection of diary excerpts. I loved the professional and human insights; the raw and brutal honesty; the sharing of the good, bad and downright tricky days. The book is full of lessons learned, an iron-will not to give up and a pretty nice picture of what success can look like.
Simply, it’s a good old bit of storytelling with loads of inspiration thrown in. What better way to kick off 2015?
So, yes I felt empowered. Yes it got me off my arse (when I actually put down this book!) to do something I had been putting off, so amen to that folks.
But that is just my 2 cents worth.
