Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
I was gone at the get-go with this book. Get through page 1 and you are in. Bang. There is a reason this book is so popular and on everyone’s must read list. It is because it strikes the perfect balance between a clever, well thought out thriller with well developed characters and great research and a down right easy to read page turner. It is like the equivalent of the Stella McCartney range at Kmart-designer stuff but within the reach of every reader.
I loved this book so much. I fell for almost every twist and turn and carried it around with me for the few days it took me to finish it. What is interesting though, is how much more enjoyable it would have been if I actually felt for any the characters – I think it would be fair for the author to expect I would sympathise, worry, admire and then loathe each of them. I didn’t. I just loved the cleverness of the story, the suspense and the complete unpredictability of it all.
And that’s my 2 cents.
Ok, I admit it. I have rammed this book down the throat of any poor soul who showed a shadow of interest in books. I absolutely loved it. From the get-go to the last line. I never re-read books. Never, just not my thing. But this one, could be my downfall. I gave my original copy away and then, feeling a strange book-shaped hole in my life, raced out and bought a new copy.
Yeah, yeah, it ain’t Shakespeare I know, but truly, I loved the book and also that feeling of crazy desperation of wanting to get back to it.
Yes, they are crazy buggers the two characters. Wouldn’t want them as friends or neighbors but hey, I loved their craziness enough to suck this baby dry. I can’t wait for the movie!
Get it. Read it.
Oh, did I mention that I loved it?
Crazy stuff

I also loved this book!! At first I was going to give up on it because I felt Amy was very superficial, but then I was in when she went missing. Loved how my alliances deviated so much, and how the book is constructed, switching back and forth with the right amount of disclosure of the plot to spur you on.
